FIRST ANALYSIS OF THIS OBJECTIVE CONDUCTED IN AUGUST 2025
CATEGORY
Early progress
DETAIL
Since the publication of the National Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Plan in April 2023, one new Ramsar Site has been added: Península Mitre, Tierra del Fuego, designated on 20 August 2024. Four additional sites still need to be designated by 2030.
To remain on a trajectory consistent with the target, an average of approximately one site per year would need to be added from 2026 onwards. No official responses were received to the information requests concerning the pipeline of sites under assessment, and there is therefore no public evidence of further designations currently under way. With 20% of the target achieved halfway through the implementation period, the assigned category is “Early progress”.
