Detail

There is no national registry or official data series identifying, by year and province, the area planted with native species and the total planted area required to calculate the percentage. The Environmental Information Centre (CIAM) does not publish afforestation data that would allow this indicator to be estimated. The authority responsible for this objective is the Undersecretariat of Environment. No response was received on this point in the information requests submitted.

 

The First Progress Report of the second National Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Plan, in sections GS-03 and GS-04, refers to “Early progress” but does not provide supporting data. It also acknowledges the lack of adequate funding for Law No. 25,080, the need to streamline administrative procedures and the fact that the challenge of increasing the area planted with native species is the same as that identified for new forest plantations.

 

In the absence of a baseline, a standardised methodology and verifiable public data series, and as no measurable progress towards the 2% target has been recorded, the assigned category is “No progress”.
