Detail

By 2023, 234 dumpsites had been identified and georeferenced under the Argentina Recycles Programme. According to the response to the information request submitted to the Undersecretariat of Environment, a national baseline was developed under the GIRSU Programme (IDB 3249-1/OC-AR), covering 1,449 open dumpsites in municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants. However, no accessible and consolidated national georeferenced registry covering the entire country has been published, nor is there evidence of periodic updates.

Given the partial coverage and the absence of a comprehensive, verifiable and up-to-date public database, the assigned category is “Early progress”. Progress has been made in identifying and georeferencing dumpsites, but the objective of establishing a complete national registry has not been achieved.
